Guardian Stories: The Fairy Survivors

The destruction of the Fairy Tribe

War was raging between the good God Afrain and Layou, Lord of Chaos and Evil. Sadly enough, war always takes its toll on both sides, no matter how strong one side is. Layou was eventually defeated and imprisoned in the Centre of the Earth, but not before he’d crushed the Fairy family. For a long time many assumed that the Fairies were no more, but not every assumption is correct. Five young Fairies were able to escape their fate by fleeing to Afrain’s Cathedral, hidden deep within the caves at Hiyou Lake, which was at that time hardly more that a puddle. Then the Afrain caused the endless rain to fall, and soon the water of Hiyou Lake became high enough to hide the cave.

The survivors

It was a time of hardship for the five surviving Fairies. Pyro, the eldest took on him the task of the leader. With his wisdom he made some decisions crucial to their survival. Mermaid, the faithful friend, took on her the task to keep everybody together. Gaia, ever grieving for the loss of their kin, took on her the task to care for what was left. Typhoon, gained the task of giving strength since he, dreamy as he was, hardly seemed to notice what was going on. Lastly Serenity honoured the memory of their lost kin by taking upon her the task to care for the souls.
They lived, but food was scarce, and it was only thanks to their combined strength that they were able to keep the water from entering the cave, which was very unusual. They were still very young, years away from reaching adulthood  Even if they were adults, five of them were hardly strong enough to influence a force so strong as the water. Still they did it, but grew weaker by the day, and thought that they too were doomed to die.

The Pearl of the Ocean

One day, Typhoon fluttered off while his mind was occupied with something else. He suddenly saw a faint blue light and thought that he perhaps had found a way out. After a while he reached a large round chamber where a bright blue gem lay on a pedestal. The gem was a beautiful, perfectly orb shaped, pearl. Typhoon marvelled at the sight of it, as he was drawn to the pearl. He was just about to touch it when he heard a sound. He looked up, thinking it was probably one of the others. After all, they were the only ones there. However, it turned out it wasn’t one of them, but something, or someone, much larger.
“It should be here somewhere.” A male voice said.
“I certainly hope so.” A female voice replied, “I don’t want to be wet for nothing.”
“You get wet everyday sis! That little swim didn’t make you any wetter than you already were!”
“It’s different brother. Outside the temperature is at least soft, these caves on the other hand are freezing.”
His surprise, but also his curiosity made Typhoon unable to move. These two people, were they searching for this jewel, or something else? Perhaps they were searching for him! By the time he had even remotely regained his composure, it was already too late. The two people had already reached the room. They looked with surprise at the young golden haired, tiny fairy. Suddenly to woman began to laugh.
“I think we have an answer to your question now brother. It seems this little guy was able to hold the water out.”
“Impossible!” The man’s eyes grew in amazement, “The Fairies are dead! And I don’t remember that they had such powers!”
The woman rolled her eyes, “Why don’t we ask him?” She turned to the Fairy, “Who are you little guy?”
Typhoon didn’t know what to say. Who were these two people? Were they allies of Afrain or Layou? Probably of Layou, why else would it rain all day long? Surely the sun would shine if Afrain had won?
“I think he’s afraid of us sis.” The man said to his sister.
“Perhaps we should properly introduce ourselves.” She offered, “I’m Mikomi, daughter of Afrain, leader of the good monsters and this is my brother Baku.”
Typhoon’s eyes grew large. He was fluttering in front of the holy children of Afrain! How could he have ever thought they were allies of Layou!
“I’m Ty.” The Fairy replied.
“Are you responsible for the barrier at the entrance of the cave?” Baku asked him.
“Sort of. There are others as well.”
“How many others?” Mikomi wanted to know.
“We’re with five”
Mikomi looked upon the small Fairy and pitied his fate. He and the others had been here for so long. Alone. “We have to help them.” She decided. “I would be selfish if we wouldn’t. These Fairies are probably free of Layou’s poison as well, and deserve to go to the Clouds Before the Sun with us.”

The Clouds before the Sun

And so it came to pass that Typhoon and the others were saved. Mikomi, Baku and the other Chosen Ones eventually found the other Hikari Crystals, and opened the Passage of the Rainbow. Baku and the Fairies were able to take to passage to the Clouds Before the Sun, but sadly Mikomi did not make it. The Fairies were greeted most warmly by Afrain and his remaining family. He was overjoyed that some Fairies, even though they were only with five and still very young, had survived. The Fairies remained and grew stronger as they aged.
It was once again Typhoon who fluttered off, his attention once more with his own thoughts. Lana, who had been sneaking in and out the Clouds Before the Sun to find the Hikari Crystals, was unaware that Typhoon was even nearby, and thus Typhoon witnessed her departure. He made nothing of it, as he was probably hardly aware of what he’d seen. Still, when he returned he was questioned by Hermi.
“Where have you been Typhoon?” He asked.
“Eh?” Typhoon replied with a dreamy look in his eyes.
“You. What have you been doing?”
“Oh, nothing really. Just thinking of those good old days, when our family was still alive…” Typhoon sighed sadly.
Hermi looked at the little golden haired youth. Although Typhoon had in some way been able to hide his grief, unlike his fellow Fairy Gaia, who still broke out in tears several times a day, it wasn’t so that he did not grief. It was actually his grief that made him so distracted.
“Incidentally, have you seen Lana?” He asked.
“Uhm…now that you mention it, I saw her leave a little while ago.” Typhoon replied.
“Leave? Where to?”
“I don’t know…ask her yourself. She’s always around at supper.’ And then he fluttered off.
Hermi, unlike Typhoon, was suspicious about Lana’s actions, and decided to shadow her. It was after a while that he found out about Lana’s deceit and conveyed the news to Lana’s father Afrain. Who had no choice but to exile his twisted daughter.

Lana’s betrayal

The exile of Lana did not stop her from trying once more to obtain the Hikari Crystals. Just exiling her was not enough. The Hikari Crystals needed to be protected, but how? Afrain pondered over the matter for a long time. Considering all the factors with uttermost care, until Hermi, who still kept an eye on Lana, came with a suggestion.
“Perhaps the survival of the five Fairies wasn’t a coincidence, Lord Afrain. Also, all they are doing here is grieving for their lost tribe. I found that, because I had matters to attend to, it was much easier for me to overcome my own grief. Perhaps we are selfish in letting them stay here with no tasks. They are with five and have inherited some unusual strong powers from their lost kin. Perhaps they are meant to guard the Hikari Crystals.”
Afrain considered the matter, “Yes, the powers of these children have surprised me more than once, but I had hoped to give them a bit longer. I wanted them to be adults before I’d send them on such a dangerous mission. Lana has become ruthless, and will surely show no mercy to them. Their powers, which I think are the combined strength of the lost Fairy Tribe, are great, but I fear that they have not yet accessed the full potential of it.”
“We cannot wait that long, my Lord. We must act now, before it’s too late.”
The Fairies had been listening, hiding behind a pillar. The nice thing about being small is that people hardly tend to see you, that and the fact that there are plenty of hiding places available. They never intended to eavesdrop in on a conversation between the leader of the good monsters and his servant, but they were curious by nature and had noticed the turmoil. Nobody bothered to tell them anything, so they were forced to get some information another way.
“I will go my Lord.” Pyro said as he emerged from his hiding place, “If I can help, even if it’s just a tiny bit, I want to do it. Two of your children have saved us from death, now it is time to do something in return.”
“And I will help him.” Mermaid added, “we will accomplish more if we do it together.”
“And you will never get anywhere without my superior guidance and wisdom. Let my songs be your motivation.” Serenity declared, and broke into a song that sounded like stampede of a herd of bulls, who were chased by a raging dragon.
After the ‘song’ had finally ended, Gaia, her face ever tear stricken and her eyes puffy red, sobbingly agreed to come along as she wanted to protect her remaining kin. Lastly Typhoon dreamily agreed as well.
Afrain looked at the five Fairies, so small and so young…how could he ask them to take this task upon them? Still, as he looked into their eyes, he saw determination, and a fierce longing to help. He relented, but not before they had to prove to him that they could control their powers. As a response the Fairies grew larger, while their wings disappeared, until they were about as big as ten to fifteen-year-old children. All except for Serenity, who looked upon her fellow Fairies and said, “Where are your wings? No wings are no fun.” And promptly she appeared as a large Fairy, “There, that’s way better.” She continued to flutter around the others.
Afrain was certain that, if the Fairies could to this, they would surely be able to hold off Lana. Still on thing needed to be done.
“Pyro, step forward.” Afrain commanded and Pyro obeyed, “You, being the eldest of the five of you must chose which Hikari Crystal will be guarded by each of you. Be wise and chose.”

The Guardians

Pyro looked around the group. In the meanwhile Serenity thought the sentry at the door of the throne room was not bad looking, and she attempted to seduce him. When he didn’t relent she started to pout and cry, saying that he was a mean old man. Suddenly she stopped crying and fluttered off again, seemingly as if nothing had happened. She saw her own reflection, first fell in love with it, then thought she was too fat and at last wondered who the one on the other side was. So many personalities and characteristics, made Serenity an absolute unique person. She had trouble to control the many souls which made her the way she now is.
It came to Pyro with stark simplicity. He knew the choice he was about to make was the right one. “Siren, could you come over here please?” He asked while using her nickname.
“Are you finally going to declare your devoted love to me?” She asked.
“No, I’m sorry sis.”
“Sis? You’re adopting me as your sister?” Siren’s eyes grew big, “Oh Pyro, that’s just the sweetest thing ever!” She dove on him to hug him.
“Siren please, get off me.” Pyro grunted.
“Oh, sure, everything for my big brother.” She got off him en calmly sat down on the floor.
Pyro stood up and took a few deep breaths, “My beloved sister, I hereby bestow upon you the name of Serenity Soulheart, Guardian of the Light of the Soul and protector of the soul.”
A bright pinkish-white light enveloped Serenity, “I will accept this task.” She nodded, and the light died away.
Then Pyro turned to Mermaid. She was such a faithful friend, always there when you needed her. Playful, yet at times deadly serious. Spunky, but also gracious. She was the one who was mostly involved in keeping the water out of the cave. Once again the only good answer came to Pyro, “Mermaid, my faithful sister.”
“Yes my dear brother?” Mermaid replied.
“I hereby bestow upon you the name of Mermaid Aquateam, Guardian of the Pearl of the Ocean and protector of the teamwork and friendship.”
This time the bright light was blue and enveloped Mermaid. She too spoke the words, “I will accept this task,” and nodded as the light was fading.
Next up was Gaia. Even after such a long time her grief was not satisfied. This girl held so much love and care in her heart, that they often wondered if she would ever stop crying.
Pyro walked up to her, took hold of her hands and looked into her puffy-red eyes, “Are you strong enough sis?” He asked of her.
She embraced him, “If you are with me brother.”
“Then I hereby bestow upon you the name of Gaia Titaniacare, Guardian of the Emerald of the Earth and protector of the love and care.”
A green light descended upon Gaia, drying up the tears that stood in her eyes and turning them from puffy-red, to milky-white. “I will accept my task.” She spoke.
The light did not die out immediately, but seemed to relay a certain message to her. She smiled and the light ebbed away.
“What was that all about?” Serenity demanded to know.
“Never mind” Gaia replied, and for once in a long, long time she actually giggled.
And of course, Serenity started to pout, but no one really took notice of that. Just two more Guardians need to be given their new name. Typhoon had always been a bit of a dreamer, but ever since they had been in Afrain’s Cathedral, he had become more and more distracted. Sometimes just lost in thought, at other times seemingly listening to something the others couldn’t hear.
“Brother.” Pyro said.
“Brother.” Typhoon replied with a nod.
“I hereby bestow upon you the name of Typhoon Griffinstrength, Guardian of the Diamond of the Angel and protector of the strength and courage.”
Another bright light appeared, though brighter than the pinkish light that had appeared at Serenity’s name giving. It swirled around Typhoon an he too spoke the words “I will accept this task” before it died out.
Last was Pyro himself. Wise and ever curious. The leader, the big brother, always in pursuit of the truth behind things.
“Now you still need to be named brother.” Gaia said.
“But I do not know how to name myself.” He objected, “When I looked at you I jst seemed to know which Hikari Crystal and which attributes fitted you, but what do I know of myself?”
‘You are wise as always, young Pyro.” Afrain complimented him, “Does it not seem logical that the one which such wisdom to successfully bestow the right tasks upon his Guardian brother and sisters, should be the protector of truth and wisdom?”
“It does, my Lord Afrain.”
“Then we, your brother and sister Guardian will hereby bestow upon you the name of Pyro Phoenixtruth, Guardian of the Ruby of the Dragon and protector of the truth and wisdom.” Typhoon, Gaia, Mermaid and Serenity said in unison.
A red light warmed Pyro, “I will accept this task.” He said, but before the red light vanished, the other lights returned, swirled together to form one united light with a indescribable colour. It seemed to give a scream of joy before it entirely vanished.
Soon afterwards to Guardians left the Clouds Before the Sun to the Valley of Endless Rain, where they, after a difficult goodbye, set off in their own direction. Ready to guard the Hikari Crystals from Lana.

I had some free time on my hands (especially since I couldn't sleep, because some idiots decided it might be fun to keep the neighborhood awake, because the Netherlands won another soccer match). Thus I decided to write an Endless Rain Untold Stories :). I'm not going to explain what it's all about. You can either check the pbwiki site (www.endlessrain.pbwiki.com) or look at Untold Stories 1 at :icondougurasu: account.

I decided I wanted to tell the story of how the Guardians came to being. Endless Rain tells you that they were the survivors of the Fairy Tribe, and that they did not always guard the Hikari Crystals. Then what did they do in the meantime? This story covers that question.

-Just like Doug, I've devided the part into several parts. I actually liked that and it gives a better understanding of what's happening.
-I wanted to give specific times, but i didn't have them,, and didn't want to risk disrupting the timeline. -.- The Fairies are about 10-15 years when they become the Guardian and their aging somehow stopped there, since they still appear to be that old when Hitori and the other come searching for the Hikari Crystals. If I've read everything right, I have followed the timeline.
-i know the demonstration of their powers is a little lame, but i didn't know how else they should have done that.
-Serenity just demands way too much attention...she had the largest part in the name giving and even manages to but in at Gaia's. (I still love her though :)).
-Anyone who can guess what the beam of light told Gaia get a :cookie:!

Edit
Changed something that caused me a fit of laughter... I reread the text and suddenly I saw that Mermaid was saying "Yes, my dead brother?" She was supposed to say "dear" XD.

The idea of Endless Rain is (c) to Kitty Ocean
Endless Rain is (c) to the writers
The idea of Endless Rain Untold Stories is (c) Dougurasu
Endless Rain Untold Stories 2 is (c) Acrocat...which is your truly !

Grammer correction :p

At least outside the temperature is soft,

Uh... I really don't know what Gaia's extra long light thing means :o I suck :p
Hahaha, it was a fun read :D I'm also kind of reluctant in giving dates, cause well... we don't really know :o It seems like in one version the Gods are the origin of all the people in the Valley and in another it seems like they made tribes with people that were already there (which seems more logical to me :p) but I guess the time spent would be about a few centuries... maybe less, I just don't know :o

I wonder about that grammer correction. My gut tells me it's both all right. Might ask my grammar teacher about it though =P.

I'll give you a hint about Gaia. She had been grieving for so long and suddenly that light caused her to giggle. It probably is something happy and what or who makes/made Gaia happy? Iknow :). Do you know now too? =P.

Well logically the time between the battle vs Layou and the 'birth' of the Guardians is about five years, but after that, who cares? =P

I could say that I like it, but I always say that.
I could say it is great, but that would be boring.
I could say it's your best work ever, but who am I to judge for that?
Therefor I say nothing, but just gape and drool at the picture.

Do fairies age the same time as humans do then? :o

I don't get the hint either :XD: see, I suck :XD:

Also I updated it on the Wiki page :o Damn that was a brutal update :o so many stuff to change in the History database :o (especially since I forgot to do that stuff per character for Untold Stories 1 :p oops :p)

Why not? They might age slower though...it's not really determined, but also not really fundamental. As long as the readers realise the Fairies are quite young in this story :).

*Sigh* Yes you suck =P. I actually thought it was quite obvious after that hint. I'm talking about Kino. Gaia grieved over her lost kin and Kino sort of became a father to Gaia. I guess it fills the void for her a bit.
